Welcome to Methuen Aikido

Methuen Aikido is a martial arts dojo (school) specializing in Aikido for self-defense. Our dojo provides the students with a safe, well equipt training facility, and offers classes instructed by experienced teachers from which to learn. We also offer additional programs for instruction in Kendo, Iaido, and Archery.

Latest Dojo News

  • A seminar is scheduled at Methuen Aikido. Sensei Gallo will be coming in on June 11th - June 13th, 2010. Mark your calendars now and join in. See THIS PAGE for more details.

  • Spring testing is coming up. Kid's tests will be held on the last saturday of April. Adult's testing will be held on the last Monday of April! Prepare well and work hard.

  • Regretfully we have ended Methuen Aikido's Kendo Club workout. My sincerest thanks go out to Sensei Myers for his generous efforts. He work introduced many new students to the very energetic martial art of Kendo. My words here do not come close to representing the full appreciation that I have for his efforts. I am sure that all of his students feel like I do and join me in saying THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

  • Calendar change!

    For the next few weeks we are going to try an experiment. Open mat time will be available on Monday and Tuesday nights from 7:30 - 8:30 for aikido students to work whatever techniques most interest them. I am requesting senior students to try to be available during some of those open mat times to help mentor students who are looking for help.

  • Session 3 of the Aikido Club at St Michael's School in North Andover is getting underway. If you are interested in starting an Aikido program for your group or school, contact the dojo.
  • I am pleased to announce the following aikido promotions based on recent tests:

    Andre Gibeau (2nd Kyu), Michael Flynn (4th Kyu), Ray Dobry (6th Kyu), Bernard Bettencourt (6th Kyu), Shawn Fornier (7th Kyu), Matt Masys (7th Kyu), Chris Cochran (7th Kyu), Joseph Burke (7th Kyu), and Tom Schneer (7th Kyu).

    Join me in congratulating each of them for their determination, hard work and accomplishment. I am extra pleased to also announce that two of those students, Joe and Tom, worked their way through the entire children's program. Special congratulations to them for completing this right of passage.

     

  • Methuen Aikido hosted a mini-seminar with instruction by David Farrell Shihan, David Halprin Shihan, & Barbara Britton Shidoin. Each of these excellent instructors taught for an hour on the afternoon of November 21, 2009. The event went well. Thank you Senseis and thank you everyone who attended. Keep an eye on this space for our next event.
  • Check out our facebook group page Read Blogs, comments, and announcements about our dojo. New info gets published there first even before the webpages so if you want to stay informed, get linked there. Everyone is welcome to participate.
  • The Teen Program schedule is expanding. Classes meet each Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
  • Kendo club now meets two nights each week, Monday for novices, Tuesday for mixed level classes.
  • Noontime Aikido classes are regretfully discontinued until further notice.
